 AnalysisQuality Management (ISO 9001) Assessment and Certification

ISO stands for "International Organisation for Standardisation.


ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard of quality for manufacturing and service. It is one of the best-known standards and there are over 400,000 certified companies worldwide using ISO-based quality management systems.


ISO 9001:2000 sets the quality standards not the production standards. The standards are based on Quality Management Principles that include the "process approach" which are all "customer focused".  The adoption of these principles should provide customers with a higher level of confidence that products will meet their needs and increase their satisfaction. 


The standards are based on 8 quality management principles. These are:

  • Customer focus
  • Leadership
  • Involvement of people
  • Process approach
  • System approach to management

  • Factual approach to decision making
  • Mutually beneficial supplier relationships.

When an organisation operates according to ISO 9001, it gains recognition for this achievement through certification of its Quality Management System. Certification involves an independent expert assessing your organisation's system to ensure that it helps deliver your specific business aims, manages risks - and in so doing, meets the internationally recognised ISO standards.

Companies that have been awarded the ISO 9001 accreditation can display the logo below on company documentation.  The log is shown below:

Customers of ISO 9001-certified companies therefore, feel confident that the company’s processes are properly documented and followed, that process improvements are continually implemented, and that there is a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

It is a good indication of the company’s commitment to quality and the company also benefits because improved quality means better satisfaction for customers.

Therefore it is worthwhile obtaining the ISO 9001 standard.
